Century of London is a presentation of
London throughout the 20th century - its evolution
and the people and events that have marked its
history. Using archives and modern film clips,
eleven themes are developed with a detailed
commentary: the Thames, Transport, Fashion, The
Second World War, the Police, Sport, Race
Relations, National Events, Parks, Restaurants and
Food, Entertainment.
This documentary is of interest to teachers for
their own information and pleasure. It can also be
used to illustrate an event, a place or a person or
to complement the study of certain historical or
sociological themes found in textbooks. The film
also lends itself to the comparison of how certain
events and people have been presented visually in
the past and present and to activities the
pronunciation of numbers, specific vocabulary and
accents.
